In December, 18 Champlain Valley Union (CVU) High School students from the Design TASC Engineering class competed in the annual UVM Engineering TASC Competition.
Working in three separate teams, CVU hauled home 10 awards in seven categories, competing against 45 other engineering teams from local schools. The students designed and built robots able to carry predominantly foam blocks through an obstacle course. Each team did a computational analysis on the scoring formula and determined a game strategy based on the easiest way to score the greatest amount of points. The engineering students racked up an impressive amount of awards in every category:
Best Overall: 1st place
Engineering Presentation: 1st and 3rd place
Honorable Mention Top Calculated Score: 1st place
Most Game Pieces Scored: 3rd place
Testing & Documentation: 1st and 3rd place
Most cargo to farthest target: 1st place
Playoff Award: 1st place
Any students interested in Engineering should contact Olaf Verdonk, teacher of Design TASC Engineering, and look to sign up for Design and Engineering Technology courses offered at CVU.
