Erik Thomas Heath, 39, formerly of Burlington, passed away unexpectedly in Spring Valley Medical Center in Las Vegas, Nev., on Tuesday, May 22, 2012. He was born in Burlington on Sept. 18, 1972, the son of Wayne Crown and Rebecca Heath McCaslin and Hugh McCaslin. He graduated from Burlington High School in 1990, and earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Vermont in electrical engineering. Erik was instrumental in developing the field of medical imaging software. He worked for several years at IDX in South Burlington, before moving to Connecticut to work for Sectra. During this time, he co-founded peerVue, with his best friends, Kyle Lawton and Mike Moore. The trio recently celebrated the accomplishment of a long-sought goal of peerVue, an acquisition with McKesson Corporation. When he was once asked if he would rather work or play, Erik replied, “My work is my play.” Erik was also a very dedicated and patient husband, father, brother and friend, who enjoyed the outdoors and having adventures. He was kind, compassionate, a great teacher and helped make the world a better place. Among his survivors is his sister, Lara Heath Allen of Shelburne.
