News from the Pierson Library: Feb. 20, 2014

Pierson Library LogoLove libraries? Love children? Looking for part-time employment? We are looking for a community-minded, youth-friendly, dynamic individual to help staff the Children’s Room and assist with youth programming eight hours a week, spread over three week days. Red Clover/Dorothy Canfield Fisher Book Discussion:  Due to yet another winter storm, this book discussion was postponed to Friday, Feb. 21 from 10:30am to noon. All home-schooled children are welcome! The younger students hear about this month’s Red Clover nominee, while the older students discuss “The Expeditioners” by Sarah Stewart Taylor. Refreshments provided.

Red Carpet Glamour at the Pierson – or not! Join us for An Evening with the Oscars on Tuesday, Feb. 25 at 6pm while we watch Cate Blanchett in the role that won her an Oscar nomination for Best Performance of a Female in a Leading Role. This is a Woody Allen film about a New York socialite, deeply troubled and in denial, who arrives in San Francisco to impose upon her sister. Come dressed for the Oscars or in your best flannel shirt: all are welcome. Free popcorn will be served! Rated PG-13.

Throwback Thursdays: Movies at the Library: Join us on Thursday, Feb. 27 at 6pm for a classic 1984 movie about three unemployed parapsychology professors who set up shop as a unique ghost removal service. Free popcorn – and marshmallows, too! Rated PG.

Mark your calendar for March! We are already planning some special events in March, and we wanted to give you a sneak peak at what’s in store:

Spring Gardening: Getting Started with Flowers and Vegetables. A question and answer session with expert Charlie Nardozzi, the author of “Vegetable Gardening for Dummies” and “Northeast Fruit & Vegetable Gardening.”  Join us in the Library on Thursday, March 6 at 6:30pm. Co-sponsored with the Charlotte Library.

Women’s History Month Guest speaker: Former Vermont Governor and U.S. Ambassador to Switzerland Madeleine M. Kunin will be speaking in the Town Hall on Tuesday, March 18 at 6:30pm in honor of Women’s History Month
