I was shocked to find out that in the proposed town budget there a $40,000 item for social services (donations). I thought that the town budget would only contain monies necessary to run the town, like the police and fire departments, but apparently not. The state and federal governments are already doing an excellent job passing out money–we don’t need to do this on the local level. I don’t need the town of Shelburne’s help when it comes to donating money to charities. Please vote no on the town budget so that this item can be removed and our tax dollars only go to operate the town. To the advocates of this idea I say get together and collect $40,000 of your own money and donate as you wish.
