Paula A. Smith

Paula A. Smith, 95, died on Monday, April 9, 2012 at the Vermont Respite House in Williston. Paula was accompanied to heaven by her waiting husband and her grandson Stephen. She was born on November 16, 1916 in Gardner, MA, the daughter of Julius and Aino (Soidinsalo) Ahtio. She was educated in Gardner Schools and received her Bachelor’s Degree from Framingham State College. She went on to earn her Master’s Degree in Nutrition from Framingham State College in 1972. On April 19, 1941 she was married in Lynn, MA to the love of her life Robert W. Smith who predeceased her on August 20, 2002.
She had worked for many years as a Home Economics teacher in New Hampshire schools and as a nutritional consultant to the State of New Hampshire. She moved to The Lodge at Shelburne Bay in 2002 to be close to her daughter and all the family that she loved so much. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Frances and David Mount of Burlington; four grandchildren and their spouses, 12 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter. She was predeceased by her grandson, Stephen J. J. Mount on July 10, 2010.
