Jogathon at SCS a great success

The Shelburne Community School (SCS) children enjoyed a fine and fun-filled day last week for the PTO’s 19th Annual Jogathon fundraiser. In the morning, the preschool through 2nd grade students ran around the flagpole circle at SCS, while the 3rd-5th graders ran the Davis-Fletcher loop in the Davis Park neighborhood. The middle school students then ran both loops in Davis Park, completing the mile-long route at least twice. Some of our most energetic runners logged over four miles! Hannaford generously donated 1,000 paper cups for the thirsty runners to stay hydrated.
At the end of each group’s event, runners were treated to all-fruit frozen pops, purchased with the aid of the school’s Wellness committee. At lunchtime, students headed back outside for a picnic lunch and music provided by SuperSound’s DJ. For most students, the dancing and music behind the school was the highlight of the day.
Also during lunchtime, the K-5th grade children had an opportunity to say farewell to retiring elementary principal Allegra Miller. The 5th grade Student Leadership group read letters to Ms. Miller and presented her with a tree hydrangea, which will be planted at the corner where she greets students each morning.
The Jogathon is an important fundraiser for the PTO. Families sent in a whopping $6,414 in donations for this event. These funds will be used for in-house grants, special activities, and equipment needed at SCS. If families haven’t yet sent in their pledge money, it is never too late to make a tax-deductible donation to the SCS PTO. Thank you for your support!
Finally, the PTO would like to extend a big thank you to all the students, parents, teachers, and community members who supported the Jogathon. Your help is crucial to this good health-promoting event.
