News from the Pierson Library

Starting off on your Genealogical Quest: Jump start your family tree research by attending this session for beginners. Pierson Library volunteer John Kelley will be giving you helpful hints and useful tips on how to begin the somewhat daunting task of tracing your roots. Many easily accessible and free resources are available to get you started. Join us on Tuesday, June 17 at 10:30 am in the Library conference room. Advance registration recommended.

Tuesday Evening Book Club: The Book Club will be meeting on Tuesday, June 17 at 6:30pm in the Library conference room to discuss “Life After Life” by Kate Atkinson. If you’ve read the book—or would like to before June 1—please feel free to join us, just for this one time or as a regular. Our next book will be “Olive Kitteridge” by Elizabeth Strout, and the discussion will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 19. If you’d like a copy of this book, a delightful series of vignettes about life in a small Maine town, just let us know.

“Three Part Intervention:” A reading by three authors from their works published by Fomite Press. Join us on Tuesday, June 17 at 7pm for the reading, discussion, and Q & A period. Discover new books to add to your summer reading list.

Wednesday Morning Book Club: The morning Book Club will be meeting on Wednesday, June 18 at 10am in the Library conference room. This month, we will discuss “The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry” by Rachel Joyce. If you’ve read the book—or would like to before the 18—please feel free to join us, just for this one meeting or on a regular basis. This Book Club will be reading the first two Sherlock Holmes stories—“A Study in Scarlet” and “The Sign of Four” by Arthur Conan Doyle —in advance of their meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 20. If you are a Sherlock Holmes fan and would like to go back to the beginning of his story, do join us in August.

Youth Summer Reading Program Kick-Off Party: Mark your calendar for Thursday, June 26 when we launch Fizz, Boom, READ! and sign up for our annual reading competition. Students in kindergarten through 6th grade, and students in 7th through 12th grade will have a chance to win an e-reader! Whoever reads the most pages over the summer within each of the two groups will win! Join us at 1pm for the kick-off party.
