Richard “Dick” Lucien Compagna, 81, passed on to be with the Lord early Sunday morning, June 10, 2012, surrounded by his loving family. A resident of South Hero and Jupiter, Fla., Dick was born on Nov. 9, 1930, in Burlington. He graduated from Burlington High School, class of 1949, and was awarded letters in three sports. After graduation, he played with The Shamrocks (a semi-pro basketball league) and then enlisted in the US Marine Corp, during the Korean War conflict, and served with distinction. Following his service, Dick worked for many years as a printer at Queen City Printers. He and his wife Virginia then began their own business adventures as proprietors of Pete’s Trailer Mart in South Burlington and Apple Tree Bay Campground and Marina in South Hero. As a retiree, Dick was able to pursue one of his life’s greatest pleasures – golf. He was very proud of his children and their accomplishments and shared with them his love of sports, zest for life and determined work ethic. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Virginia Bove Compagna, whom he wed on Sept. 3, 1956, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Burlington. Among others, he is also survived by a son, Richard of Shelburne. A longtime resident of Shelburne and Burlington, he leaves behind many dear family and friends. His life will be celebrated at a Mass of Christian Burial at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Church in Burlington on Friday, June 15, at 10 am.
