CVU wins season opener
The Champlain Valley Union High School baseball team beat Mount Abraham 4-3 Tuesday afternoon. Davis Mikell homered, tripled, and picked up the win in relief of starter Andrew Nick.
Redhawks, Bulla start season strong
Chris Bulla did it again. He contributed two goals and an assist to help the Redhawks beat Middlebury 8-6 in a high school boys lacrosse game Tuesday, April 10. Chandler Jacobson and Quinn Kropf scored twice for Champlain Valley and Griffin Brady had a goal and two assists. Charlie Shea had a goal and Owen Hudson had four saves.
In its second game of the season Chris Bulla bagged five goals and two assists as Champlain Valley held off Mount Mansfield 12-10 on Saturday, April 7. Alex Bulla added three goals and an assist for the Redhawks while Shea’s two points included the game winner with 3:20 remaining. Kropf (two assists) and Brady also scored while Will Fay stopped seven shots.
At Hinesburg Shea scored four goals and Christian Goulette supplied a goal and five assists as Champlain Valley cruised by Spaulding, 8-4, in the opener for high school boys lacrosse last Wednesday, April 4. Chris Bulla, Steele Dubrul, and Jack Gingras also scored for the Redhawks. Fay made five saves.
Brenna Gorman scored five goals and had two assists as Champlain Valley Union won its girls lacrosse opener against Montpelier 18-4 on Saturday, April 7. Michaela Kiley scored three and had one assist while Jess Dudley scored three. Miki Gobeille and Sarah Caffrey shared time in goal and made four and five saves respectively.
Boys bounce back after tough loss
The Champlain Valley Union boys tennis team rebounded after a close 3-4 loss to Burlington last week by beating Colchester 5-2 on Monday, April 9. At Colchester CVU’s third and fourth singles players Joey O’Brien and Ryan Schneiderman won their matches while Tyler Murphy and Chris Vecchio won their doubles match. Two matches were decided in favor of CVU via forfeit.
Softball off to rough start
Mount Abraham cruised by CVU 21-5 in the opener for both teams Tuesday, April 10. Lisa Leister doubled, tripled, and scored two runs for the Redhawks. Alannah Roy took the loss.
Girls tennis on a roll
The Champlain Valley Union girls tennis team beat Burlington 7-0, Stowe 5-2, and Colchester 7-0 to begin the regular season on a high note.
Track & field teams place second
The Champlain Valley boys and girls track & field teams placed second in their first meet of the high school season at Colchester.
