For the past two years Melvin Kaplan, founder of the Vermont Mozart Festival and artistic director of the Vermont Summer Music Festival, and Michael Dabroski, co-artistic director of the Burlington Ensemble, have performed together throughout the United States (the Kravis Center in Palm Beach, Fla.; the Mondavi Center in Davis, Calif.; the University of Florida in Gainesville; New York’s Metropolitan Museum and Morgan Library). They have played with the New York Chamber Soloists Orchestra in performances featuring concertos performed by such renowned soloists as pianists Menahem Pressler and Anton Kuerti, violinist Rachel Barton Pine, and clarinetist Richard Stoltzman.
After 37 years, the Vermont Mozart Festival came to a conclusion two years ago and many have tried to continue the tradition of providing wonderful classical music to friends and colleagues throughout Vermont. For 2012, they have succeeded. During the span of two weeks this summer, Dabroski and his co-director Sofia Hirsch, under the title Burlington Ensemble, and Kaplan, under the banner of the Vermont Summer Music Festival, will each offer a week of very special and unusual musical events in different locations throughout the state.
