Part-time Shelburne resident is NHL first round draft pick

Zemgus Girgensons, a part-time Shelburne resident with the Jim Hall family, was chosen in the first round of the National Hockey League entry draft, 14th overall, by the Buffalo Sabres on Friday, June 22 at the Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh, Pa.

A native Latvian, Girgensons moved to Vermont in 2009 to play for the Green Mountain Glades in the Eastern Junior Hockey League. He spent the last two years playing for the Dubuque Fighting Saints in the United States Hockey League. Girgensons is committed to play for UVM in the fall.
