Upcoming Library closures
The Pierson Library will be closing at 5:30 on Tuesday, July 3. We will be closed on Wednesday, July 4 in observance of Independence Day. Happy Birthday, USA!
Dream Big: Summer programs in the youth area
This afternoon, Thursday, June 28 at 1 pm: I can fly twice as high! Paint a hot air balloon to hang from your ceiling and take your photo in our giant cardboard hot air balloon.
There will be no programs next week, the week of July 4.
Explorer Club: Tuesday, July 10 at 1 pm: Get lost at Sea! Build a model hovercraft or ocean floor rover and take part in a scuba diving relay.
Faerie Club: Wednesday, July 11 at 1 pm: Make a flower press! Preserve the wildflowers you collect with your own handmade flower press.
Catch sweet dreams at Pierson Library: Thursday, July 12 at 1 pm: We’ll have everything you’ll need–beads, feathers and floss—to weave your own dream catcher. Then you’ll have only the sweetest dreams.
There is still space in all of these programs. You can call to register by phoning the library at 985-5124 or by stopping at the front desk. You can always check the Pierson Library website or our Facebook page for the latest information on these programs.
Over the Rainbow Party on Friday, July 13 at 1 pm
Follow the yellow brick road to the Pierson Library for our Wizard of Oz themed party. Play games, have your fortune told, make a craft to bring home, and more. No registration is needed for the party, just join us in Oz.
Volunteers are once again needed for the library front desk.
Our wonderful library volunteers are invaluable to our staff and greatly assist in making Pierson Library the cheerful and helpful place that it is. If you would like to help out at the library and share your love of reading with your neighbors, we are looking for you. For more information, talk to Reggie or another staff member at the circulation desk, or call 985-5124. Training is provided for all volunteers.
Play Scrabble next Thursday, July 12 at 1 pm
Every first and third Thursday of the month join fellow wordsmiths for a rousing game of Scrabble. Scrabble boards open at 1 pm Come for as long as you can. Bring a friend. Be prepared for a challenge and lots of fun.
Summer is a great time to visit a museum. Please remember to bring your library card when you want to check out a museum pass. Here’s a quick list of the many museum passes available at Pierson Library for Shelburne card holders:
Passes that can be reserved ahead for a specific date: The Echo Museum; VINS Nature Center; The Fairbanks Museum and Planetarium; The St. Johnsbury Athenaeum; The Vermont State Parks; Shelburne Museum; The Maritime Museum.
Passes not needing a reservation: The Montshire Museum of Science (four passes available per family per season); The Vermont Historical Society Museum; The Fleming Museum (a card pass that can be used for a family at any time); The Ethan Allen Homestead; Birds of Vermont Museum; The Rokeby Museum; The Henry Sheldon Museum.
