The Schoolhouse Learning Center received a $500 grant from SCHIP, the Shelburne Charlotte Hinesburg Interfaith Projects whose mission is to improve the lives of its neighbors in Shelburne, Charlotte, and Hinesburg and to strengthen these communities. The funding will support the development of critical aspects of a new preschool program—Story Time at the Schoolhouse. Story Time offers an affordable, high quality preschool whose unique curricular approach seeks to encourage students’ healthy behaviors and commitment to environmental stewardship.

Upon learning of the grant, Kelly Story, Story Time’s Director, explained, “We are enormously grateful to SCHIP for supporting our work to make simple, yet critical additions and alterations to the existing grounds to support our gardening and other outdoor activities—installing fencing and gates, building raised garden beds, and digging and filling several large sandboxes. The support from SCHIP and from community volunteers and other organizations is enormously helpful in keeping our costs down while maintaining our commitment to children’s growth and development as stewards of the earth.”
