Racevermont.com held its first of three sprint triathlons Saturday, June 30 beginning at Shelburne Beach. The race was a 500-yard swim, a 13-mile bike, and 3.1 mile run. The individual men’s winner was Gary Snow who finished in 1:04:41. Shelburne residents Don Kjelleren finished second in 1:05:32 and Jeff Alexander completed the race in 1:16:20, for 18th place. Donna Smyers was the individual women’s winner with a time of 1:14:55. Both male and female winners earned a slot at the USA National Sprint Triathlon Championships in Burlington on Aug. 18. Other locals who competed include Christine Kogut of Charlotte, Bill Paganelli of Shelburne, Karen Newman, a Charlotte summer resident, Rowen Beck of Charlotte, Greg Mernick of Hinesburg, Jack Torney, Bobby Torney, Sally Torney, and Robert Torney all of Shelburne.
