Shelburne resident Caroline Jones, 16, walked the runway as Miss Vermont’s Outstanding Teen 2012 on Saturday night in the Performing Arts Center at South Burlington High School. She will now begin a year-long journey taking her across the state promoting scholastic achievement, creative accomplishment, community involvement, and healthy living for the nation’s youth.
After receiving her new title, Jones shared, “I am excited about this opportunity to begin my year of service as the new Miss Vermont’s Outstanding Teen. I look forward to meeting with Vermonters and sharing my enthusiasm about my platform: Building a Better Tomorrow – Encouraging Youth to Give Back.”
Jones receives $4,250 in scholarships, over $7,000 in prizes, and the opportunity to compete for the Miss America’s Outstanding Teen 2013 title in Orlando, Fla. on Aug. 18.
Jones, a Champlain Valley Union High School student, is active in the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Program, Girls on the Run, and dramatic arts. She is also a three-time Junior Olympic Athlete in fencing. She plans to attend Boston College and pursue a career in socio-cultural anthropology.
