The Shelburne 9/10 Softball All-Star team made history this week at the District 1 Tournament in Bristol, Vt.  For the first time ever, all the players on the team were from Shelburne. The softball program, started just five years ago, had 30 girls playing at the 9/10 level this spring. Out of this group, 12 players stepped forward for the All-Star team.  The double elimination tournament started on June 30 with Shelburne beating South Burlington by a score of 18-16. The next day the girls played Williston, winning with the help of strong pitching and lots of hits. The win gave the team some much needed rest until Friday evening, when they played Vergennes. It took three hours and 45 minutes, but the team won with the help of some great defensive plays, sending the Shelburne Softball team to the Championship game for the first time ever.  The team played Mt. Abe on July 8, losing in a close fought game.  Because the Shelburne team was undefeated, the girls played Mt. Abe again on Monday, July 9, but unfortunately the result was no different.  Manager Donna Canty said, “We are so proud of how the girls played during this whole tournament.  They exceeded our expectations every time they took the field.”
