Charlotte is the site for the popular Flynn Garden Tour on Sunday, July 15. The 16th Annual Flynn Garden Tour will be held from 10 am to 3 pm with complimentary tea, sponsored by Wake Robin, from 3 to 4 pm.

This year’s gardens are diverse in both style and maturity. There are artistically designed gardens from the original creator of the Flynn’s garden tour: this garden was formerly an apple orchard and the owner, an artist, will have her studio open to tour takers.  A master gardener’s hidden-away gardens and outdoor living spaces bordering Lake Champlain will delight all. Visit a home and garden that has been described as “a work of fine art,” including a garage roof planted in grass and a 90-foot green ash growing through the roof of the garden room.

More than one studio will be open for tour takers this year. Other highlights include the eclectic gardens and first floor of an 1890 Queen Anne Victorian house, formerly tended by a full-time staff. The current owner started many of the perennials from seed. Objet d’art will be scattered throughout the gardens and a few antique automobiles will be on display. A Certified Wildlife Habitat on 10 acres houses 71 species of birds. This property with expansive views of Lake Champlain and the Adirondacks includes formal gardens, raised flower and vegetable beds, 75 different trees and shrubs, and a large pond. One proud garden host has kept a garden journal for 16 years. Much of the garden was in place and well-planned, but a gardener is never content to leave well enough alone – learn some of the secrets of her successful 50 years as a gardener.

Get an insider’s view of six private gardens, listen to garden talks, see art, antique vehicles, and more. As in past years, box lunches will be available for purchase. A full listing of activities, details, and directions are published in an informative brochure that comes with every purchased ticket. For full details about the itinerary and related information, call Paula Roberts at 652-4507.

Tickets are $35 in advance and $37 the day of the tour and include the afternoon tea.
