Alternative to honor veterans

I read with interest of the proposed monument to veterans in the latest Shelburne News. I tried to use the impossibly long URL included in the article for linking to the survey, and couldn’t make it work. So I decided to write instead. My thought is that if we really want to honor contemporary veterans, why not create a scholarship fund for veterans and family members, instead of adding still another largely ignored monument to the landscape?
