Seventeen junior sailors in the Lake Champlain Yacht Club (LCYC) junior sailing program traveled to the Northern Lake George Yacht Club (NLGYC) in Hague, N.Y. to sail in the “Cheeseburger” Regatta on Thursday and Friday, July 26 and 27. The junior sailors, all Shelburne and Charlotte residents, were part of 84 participants competing from six sailing programs from Lake George, Saratoga Lake, and Lake Champlain. The annual “Cheeseburger” is the highlight of the summer for many juniors. This year’s regatta drew the highest number of participants and boats in recent history.
LCYC sailors were very well represented in the final results, with Charlie Maitland and Noah Allen taking 2nd place in the Flying Junior class, and Ben Langdon and Will Kuenne in 7th place out of 31 competitors. In the Optimist class of 22 boats, Jack Merrill had a 2nd place finish, Matthew Kuenne finished 5th, and David Johnson placed 6th. All of the sailors, coaches, and parents had a lot of fun and truly enjoyed the hospitality of their NLGYC host families!
