Bond Auto grants wishes

Shelburne resident Scott Bond works in the family business, Bond Auto, which is an auto parts business with stores throughout Vermont, New Hampshire, and northern New York.  Bond Auto Parts has a history of offering their support to many different organizations and charities over the years. In 2004, the Bond family decided they wanted to consolidate their philanthropic efforts and pick a flagship charity. After careful research and thought, Make-A-Wish® Vermont was chosen.  The reasoning came down to three things:

1. Make-A-Wish serves only Vermont children and money is spent locally

2. 80 percent of every dollar spent goes directly towards granting wishes

3. The mission supports both children and their immediate family

The first year Bond Auto Parts became the presenting sponsor at Make-A-Wish Vermont’s annual Walk for Wishes was in 2004.  Every year since, they have made this a tradition and a commitment.  They encourage employees from each store to attend the Walk, they promote the Walk at all of their store locations, members of the Bond family serve on Walk Committee’s and Advisory Councils, they create a Bond Auto Parts Walk Team, and they recently formed a Bond Golf Team that won $10,000 in an All Charity Golf Classic. Their support is endless.

Scott, Carla, Alex, and Will Bond of Shelburne are a few of the Bond family members at the center of that support. Both Scott and Carla feel very fortunate to have the ability to help make wishes come true.  They feel it is important not only for them, but also for their kids to understand the “power of a wish.”  “It (the “power of a wish”) really resonated with Alex and Will when they realized they had classmates at Shelburne Community School that had a wish come true,” Carla said. “It brought the mission full circle.”

Scott and Carla feel very strongly that it is important to give back to their community.  They are both active participants in Shelburne Little League, the CSSU Buccaneers, and the Shelburne Community School.  Along with their family, they have made many Vermont wishes come true.

Make-A-Wish Vermont grants wishes to Vermont children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.  Since their inception, in 1989, Make-A-Wish Vermont has granted over 600 wishes.  It relies solely on the support of donors, events, and corporate partners, like Bond Auto to fulfill their mission. The average cost of a wish is $11,000.
