Harvest Festival celebrates Vermont’s farms and forests

All ages flock to the annual Harvest Festival at Shelburne Farms – a day of fun, music, educational activities, demonstrations, and good food.

Celebrate autumn’s abundance with family and friends at the 34th annual Shelburne Farms Harvest Festival on Saturday, Sept. 15, from 10 am to 4 pm. It’s a day to honor Vermont’s farm and forestry traditions with marvelous music, delicious seasonal foods, lots of farm animals, and friendly crowds.

The courtyard of the historic Farm Barn and the surrounding fields are filled with excitement on Festival day, hosting music, dancing, story tellers, educational exhibits, demonstrations, and animals.

The Green Mountain Draft Horse Association will be offering horse-drawn hayrides and under the children’s tent, families will find many hands-on activities for children of all ages. Education exhibits cover everything from birds of prey to farm animals and antique farm machinery. There are demonstrations by craftspeople, rug hookers, woodworkers, cheesemakers, gardeners, spinners, weavers, and many more.

There will be lots of food from local producers and music will fill the air, as singers and dancers entertain throughout the festival. Back by popular demand this year is The Hay Bale Maze – bigger than last year and with a challenging new design.

Admission to the Harvest Festival is free to Shelburne Farms members. Admission for non-members is $8/adults; $5/children; children under three years of age are free.  The event is held rain or shine. For information, please call (802) 985-8686 or visit www.shelburnefarms.org.
