Field hockey team wins one, loses one
After a 0-1 loss to Mt. Abraham on Wednesday, the Lady Redhawks field hockey team beat Middlebury 1-0 Saturday, Sept. 22. Molly Dunphy scored the lone goal to lead her team to victory.
The team lost to Burlington 0-1 in overtime in a home game on Tuesday, Sept. 25. Evangeline Dunphy made one save in goal for the 3-3-1 Redhawks.
Boys soccer team suffers loss after two triumphs
Scoring twice in the second half, the CVU boys soccer team secured a 2-0 win against Essex Wednesday, Sept. 19, spoiling the Hornets’ no-loss season. Noah Lieberman and Max Brown scored goals while Joe Castano and Tucker Shelley tallied assists.
The CVU boys soccer team beat Mt. Mansfield 1-0 in an away game on Friday, Sept. 21. Tucker Shelley scored in the second half to secure the win. Goalkeeper Brandon O’Connell made eight saves for CVU.
The Redhawks couldn’t respond to Harwood’s goal in the first half of Monday’s game and lost 0-1. O’Connell made seven saves for the 4-1-1 Redhawks.
Girls soccer loses heartbreaker, shuts out MMU, Colchester
The CVU girls soccer team lost to the Essex Hornets 2-3 on Wednesday, Sept. 19 in overtime. Lady Redhawk Audrey Morehouse scored the first goal on a pass from Haliana Burhans and Kate Raszka scored CVU’s second goal. Goalkeeper Lily Harris had 11 saves. The Redhawks had only allowed one goal all season before this match.
In an away game on Saturday, Sept. 22, the team scored five unanswered goals which led them to a victory over Mount Mansfield. Burnhans scored twice while Bronwen Hopwood, Taylor Goldsborough, and Morehouse also scored for CVU. Harris had two saves to protect CVU.
The CVU girls soccer team cruised to a 4-0 win over Colchester in a home game on Tuesday, Sept. 25. Emily Kinneston, Megan Gannon, Raszka, and Burhans scored goals for the 6-1 Lady Redhawks.
Boys XC place 5th
Nick Bouton helped the CVU boys cross-country team reach a 5th place finish at Saturday’s Manchester Invitational in the large school race behind Massabesic, Essex, Londonderry, and Merrimack Valley. Bouton placed 16th in 17:07. The next CVU runner was Clarke Shedd, placing 39th in 17:32.
Redhawks run to 3rd place finish
At Tuesday’s cross-country meet in Burlington, the CVU boys placed third, behind Burlington and Essex. CVU’s Jackson Weese finished 4th in 21:03, followed directly by Silas Cleveland in 21:17.
Spillane leads CVU XC’ers
At the 38th Annual Manchester Invitational in New Hampshire on Saturday, Sept. 22, Taylor Spillane led the Lady Redhawks cross-country team to a second place finish behind Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake on a tie-breaker in the elite division, with her personal first place finish of 18:07. CVU’s Autumn Eastman placed second in 18:23 while Julienne Devita secured fourth place in 19:25.
CVU girls place 2nd
The girls cross-country team took 2nd place to Burlington at Tuesday’s meet. Rachel Baginski placed 8th for CVU in 24:56.6, followed by Katie Polhemus in 9th with a time of 24:59.2.
