New partnership offers complete range of college planning

Margo Bartsch, founder of College Essay Coach, is pleased to announce a partnership with Marie Thayer, founder of College Concierge that will offer a complete range of college planning services. College Concierge was launched in the summer of 2012 and provides a road map to the college process for families beginning in the freshman year and throughout high school. Collectively, College Concierge and College Essay Coach work together to optimize the high school experience and positively influence college admissions outcomes.

College Concierge has been working with College Essay Coach families to meet each student’s individual needs in developing college lists, rounding out the high school resume, recommending additional academic resources, and scheduling college road trips.

“The biggest growth in my business has been in working with families earlier in the planning cycle,” explained Bartsch. “In visiting college campuses earlier, students become actively involved in the college process and more motivated to enhance their overall application. Ultimately, the goal is have more choices in finding the college with the best fit.”

Thayer added, “I have been in the parent’s shoes in navigating this process with my son Hunter, who graduated Skidmore two years ago, and most recently with my daughter Holly, who is a sophomore at Wake Forest. Also, I am involved with my stepchildren’s college experiences with Molly, a junior at UVM, and Sam, a junior at Montana State University. Ten years ago, when I started this process with Hunter, there were so many opportunities I missed.  The college process continues to change. I have identified resources that most high schools do not emphasize.”

College Concierge has developed a process for planning ahead to get the student more involved with the college process.  Thayer has created organizational tools to help families be better prepared starting with freshman year.

Thayer is a graduate of University of Richmond as a marketing major with a degree in business. She has worked at both Xerox and Contel Cellular. She currently serves on the Parent Board of Development at Rice Memorial High School. Thayer is an avid tennis player and an active member of St. Catherine of Siena parish. With her organizational skills and approachable personality, she is able to work with families to identify all the pieces of the puzzle to make a well-rounded candidate.

College Essay Coach specializes in helping students with the college essays required on the Common Application and supplemental applications. Additional services include college overview planning, SAT/ACT essay prep, and strategic planning. College Essay Coach has achieved 100 percent admissions into at least one of the three top choices on a student’s list including Middlebury, Brown, Dartmouth, Boston College, University of Vermont, and others.

Bartsch founded College Essay Coach in 2004. She is an adjunct professor in the business division at Champaign College.  Bartsch is a marketing professional who graduated Northwestern University with a B.A. in economics and a M.S.J. in advertising from the Medill School of Journalism.
