New playground opens thanks to community effort
On behalf of the Shelburne Parks and Recreation Department and the Recreation Committee, I would like to thank all those involved in helping bring to fruition a new, safe and revitalized playground at Shelburne Beach. I feel honored to work and serve in such a supportive community as Shelburne. We were astonished at the wonderful turnout of participants and donors for the Fool’s Flop Fundraiser. We are especially grateful for the generous sponsorship from the Automaster and the SCHIP grant.
After the first hurdle of fundraising was accomplished, we still needed to build the playground with the help of more volunteers. Our call for help was again answered by a fabulous work crew donated by Shawn Sweeney, owner of Sweeney Designbuild, and a number of hard working volunteers. We would like to recognize the following people who toiled last Thursday in a fantastic group effort to construct the new playground alongside Sweeney’s crew: David McLellan, Officer Mike Thomas, Cprl. Aaron Noble, Chris Konowitz, and Victoria Dilley.
In addition to all the volunteers in the community, the Recreation Department would like to recognize the efforts and teamwork from the Highway, Maintenance, and Water and Sewer Departments in assisting us with several different aspects of this project.
We invite everyone down to the beach this spring to enjoy the beautiful scenery and check out the new playground which is now open!
