Shelburne resident graduates from USMC Officer Candidates School

Karoline “Kari” Foote of Shelburne graduated from the United States Marine Officer Candidates (USMC) School at Quantico, Va. on Aug.18 after attending the Platoon Leaders Class for two summers: the Juniors course in the summer of 2011 and the Seniors course this summer. She will be commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the USMC upon completion of the Bachelor’s degree in Spring 2013. While at Officer Candidates School (OCS), Kari received a Certificate of Honor for attaining a perfect score on the physical fitness test.
Foote is currently a senior at Smith College, where she is a double major in government and engineering, and is on the Dean’s List. She is also a member of the Smith College Glee Club and the Smith College-University of Massachusetts chapter of Engineers Without Borders. She has traveled to Africa twice with the latter group to build a water catchment system for a women’s clinic in Namawanga, Kenya. Foote is the daughter of Richard and Zsuzsanna Kadas-Foote of Shelburne.

All three are graduates of Rice High School.
