Eunice Dorothy Lemkul – Shelburne

Eunice Dorothy Lemkul died on Oct. 8, 2012, in the Skilled Nursing Unit at Wake Robin in Shelburne, at age 89. She was born on Oct. 14, 1923, in Crete, Neb., the youngest of four children born to the Rev. Adolf and Mrs. Anna Haessler Schrein. Eunice was a graduate of Doane College in Crete. After graduation she worked in the Registrar’s Office at Doane and later at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. She was in campus student ministry for the Lutheran Church at Iowa College in Ames. She then went to the Registrar’s Office at Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, Mo., where she met seminarian John Lemkul. They were married in 1956 in San Leandro, Calif. While living in California, Eunice worked in the Graduate Division of the University of California, Berkeley, and later was the Registrar at Mills College in Oakland. She and her family lived briefly in New York City and Toronto, Canada, and then moved to Hanover, N.H. Eunice was very active in her husband’s ministry to Dartmouth students and the Upper Valley community. She also worked at Dartmouth College as Administrative Assistant in the Classics Department, in the Foreign Studies Program, and in the Government Department. She and her husband lived in Hanover for 27 years before retiring to Wake Robin in 1994. In Shelburne, she continued to be active in church work and in many programs and activities at Wake Robin. Eunice is survived by her husband, John; her daughter, Elizabeth, of Oakland, Calif.; and her sister, Velma Knigge, of Sonora, Calif. Services of Remembrance will be at Wake Robin, Friday, Oct. 12, 2012, at 2 pm and at Ascension Lutheran Church, Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012, at 2 pm.
