In a hard fought battle, contested bi-annually, the USA and Canada team (USA&C) of 15 priests and bishops bested the clergy team of Great Britain and Ireland (GB&I) by a final score of 23 to 17 on July 31.
The tournament is loosely based on the Ryder Cup played by golf professionals. The venue for the tournament alternates between the United States and Great Britain. This year’s competition was held on at the Roxburghe Championship Golf Course in Scotland.
After the first day of matches the USA&C team held an 8 to 4 lead. After foursome matches and two singles matches on day two the score stood at USA&C 14.5 to GB&I 9.5. As has been the tradition in the past, ownership of The Cranmer Cup would come down to the singles matches on the third day.
In the end it was the USA&C Captain Tom Ely that held The Cranmer Cup in victory. The next Cranmer Cup tournament is planned for 2014 in North Carolina.
