Delicious aromas of apples, pumpkins, and spices will waft through the air in Shelburne on Nov. 16 and 17. That’s the weekend of the pie sale to benefit Shelburne Nursery School. The tasty tarts will be available at Shelburne Supermarket on Friday from 3-7 pm and Saturday 8 am-noon.
Various types of fruit and cream pies will be offered, each one prepared by a nursery school student’s family. Pies will be given to shoppers in exchange for monetary donations. Money raised will help maintain the nonprofit school and keep tuition affordable for all families regardless of income. The pie sale has become a much-anticipated tradition in town.
“Residents look forward to buying the pies for their Thanksgiving feast. They know they are supporting our community preschool,” said Kian Banks, a member of the school’s Board of Directors and parent of a student in the four-year-old class. “We don’t recall what year this tradition started, but I’m hoping someone in the community will come to the sale and tell us!”
Founded in 1955, Shelburne Nursery School is a nondenominational, nonprofit preschool located in Shelburne Village. It operates as a parent cooperative, with the students’ families sharing responsibilities for fundraising, administration, and maintenance. The preschool is state licensed and accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children.
