Once again the Green Mountain Boys (GMB) played an amazing defensive game and received strong pitching performances from Connor Philbrick, Ethan Oglesby, and Becket Hill to defeat South Burlington 9-3 on Saturday. Bo Pike executed a perfect defensive double play at short-stop in the 4th inning with a lunging catch to his right off a sharply hit line drive then threw a bullet to first base to double up a South Burlington (SB) base runner caught off the bag. That was indeed the play of the game until Rory Ulmer turned in a defensive gem in the next inning. With men on first and second base and no outs, a SB batter hit a line drive to Ulmer at second base. Ulmer made the catch, ran down, and tagged the runner leading off first, and fired to second base completing a rare triple play!
Each week the GMB awards “The Golden Helmet” to the player with the outstanding play for the game. Ulmer received the award for executing a rare triple play.
The next GMB game is scheduled for 12 pm on Dec. 1 at The Field House in Shelburne.
