The Shelburne Community School (SCS) will kick off the holiday season this Saturday, Dec. 1, from 9:30 am-1:30 pm with its Holiday Fair. This hugely popular free event is bigger than ever this year and will now fill both of the gyms, as well as the cafeteria, with tables brimming over with child-made crafts and delicious foods. This year will feature an assortment of finery such as handmade jewelry, wreaths, hair bling, home-made soaps, tote bags, note cards, pillows, and gift baskets. Some of the students run their own tables with their own creations. Other tables showcase the crafts made in the classrooms. Also look for the games, which will entirely fill the back gym! Many children thoroughly enjoy a chance to win prizes at the array of game booths, such as Balloon Pop and Wheel of Fortune.
A bonus silent auction donation this year—two brand-new computers—built by SCS students, each a Pentium dual-core CPU with 2 GB ram and 500 GB hard drive, with Office 2007 already installed. Auction will be at the PTO table.
Come to the Fair with an appetite! In the cafeteria, breakfast and lunch will be served as a fundraiser for the Treehouse and Inspire Teams. A number of classes and individuals are also hosting bake sales, selling homemade pies, breads, (freeze for the holidays!) and a wide variety of interesting and creative treats. And – the popular Musical Cakes raffle returns!
Many parents have found that this is a great affordable way for the kids to do their own holiday shopping for friends and family. With a small amount of money the children can buy a lot of gifts and support their classmates.
Many class teams at SCS are working hard this week on their crafts for sale. Proceeds from the team tables go directly back to their classrooms, helping pay for special expenses and field trips.
Also, new at the Fair this year: a food drive for the Shelburne Food Shelf. Non-perishable foods will be collected at the entrance to the Fair to share with our neighbors in need.
So please come have a great time, pick up some wonderful crafts and food, and support the school!
