Thankful for the VNA

As many of us take time to focus on home and family over the Thanksgiving holiday, I would like to recognize the VNA–during National Home Care and Hospice month–for all they do to support families in our community. The Visiting Nurse Association of Chittenden and Grand Isle Counties cares for people in their homes–where they want to be–rather than in hospitals or other care facilities. The VNA has over 1,300 staff and volunteers working every day to help provide expert, compassionate support to our neighbors and friends. The VNA provides a full range of services, from personal care and companionship to highly technical clinical nursing support. This local agency touches many lives–nearly 5,000 individuals and families last year–supporting us from birth through the end of life. In several programs, reimbursement for the care falls well below the cost to provide it. Through the generous support of donors, the United Way, and all of the cities and towns in Chittenden and Grand Isle Counties, the VNA is able to care for many of our most vulnerable community members in their homes, with their families. This non-profit agency provides high quality care, at far less cost than institutional healthcare systems. Please join me in thanking the staff and volunteers of the VNA for all that they do, and have done for over 106 years.
