Elizabeth F. Giddings passed away peacefully on Nov. 30, 2012. She was born Grace Elizabeth Fisk on May 11, 1914, to David S. and Grace (Gibson) Fisk, in Hudson Falls, N.Y. Betty graduated from Wells College in 1935, and from the Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nursing in 1938. As a nurse on the surgical floor at the MGH, she met her future husband. W. Philip Giddings, MD and Betty were married on May 24, 1941. In 1950, they moved their young family to Bennington, where he began his surgery practice. Betty stayed home to raise their children, but she kept her hand in nursing through her work at the Bennington Red Cross blood bank. In 1994, Betty and Phil moved to Wake Robin in Shelburne, where they spent their last wonderful years. Betty is survived by her children, Robert F. Giddings, Deborah G. Lawrence and husband, Frederick, David G. Giddings and wife, Cherie, and James P. Giddings and wife, Petria Mitchell. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Charlotte G. Gillespie and husband, Boyd, Robert P. Giddings and wife, Lisa, Gibson C. Lawrence and wife, Carol Long, Abigail L. Belanger and husband, Craig, and Cloelle G. Danforth and husband, Jason; and great-grandchildren, Lilly, Helen, and Philip Gillespie, Grace Elizabeth, Mary, and Bradley Belanger. Betty was predeceased by her husband, Philip; brother, James D. Fisk; and daughter-in-law, Anne R. Giddings. The family wishes to acknowledge the staff at Wake Robin for their incredible support and love for Mom.
