Hello and goodbye – transition at the Library
Change is afoot at the Library. With much sadness, we are saying goodbye to Linda Huntington. Linda has been the public services assistant since early 2010 and was a library volunteer for three years prior to that. She has been the friendly face of all adult programming, including book group, interlibrary loan librarian, volunteer co-coordinator, as well as the voice of this library column most weeks. Linda will be relocating to Cape Cod with her significant other, Lauren Wedam, who has recently started a new job. Linda’s last day will be Dec. 13; stop by and thank her for her service and wish her well.
Help us in welcoming Carol Casey as the new public services assistant. You may recognize Carol as the Thursday afternoon and frequent Saturday volunteer. She comes to us with an extensive background in public affairs, local history, and newspaper reporting. Carol has a passion for library services and will be bringing new ideas to library programming in the coming months. Please stop by and say hi and welcome her aboard.
Adult and Teen Craft Workshops:
The Pierson Library is again teaming up with the Charlotte Library to offer two seasonal teen and adult craft workshops. This evening, Thursday, Dec. 6, the Pierson Library will host an ornament making workshop with Shelburne’s own DIY expert Joanne Palmisano from 6 to 7:30 pm. Autographed copies of Joanne’s book “Salvage Secrets” will be available to purchase at this workshop. The Charlotte Library will be hosting a winter card-making workshop with expert guidance from crafter Eliza Bedell on Tuesday, Dec. 11 from 7 to 8:30 pm. All supplies and tools, as well as design advice will be provided for participants, along with refreshments to keep the creative juices flowing. Call the Charlotte Library at 425-3864 or the Pierson Library at 985-5124 to register for either of these workshops.
Upcoming programs in the Pierson Library youth area:
Movie afternoons are back for another season! On Thursday afternoons you can once again stop into the library to watch a movie and enjoy a free snack with friends and family. This afternoon, Thursday, Dec. 6, features a screening of “Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted” rated PG. Next week’s feature on Thursday, Dec. 13, will be “The Pirates! Band of Misfits” also rated PG. All movies begin at 3:15 pm.
Tuesday Crafternoons are back again! Join us to build handmade gifts for friends and family. The next Crafternoon will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 11 at 3:30 pm. Younger children should have a parent on hand to help with the construction. No registration is needed for these programs. On Tuesday, Dec. 11 make a fabric snow angel.
The annual Holiday Book and Food Donation
The Shelburne Emergency Food Shelf is once again asking for our help. The basket for Holiday book and food donations has appeared once again in the library lobby, next to the circulation desk. If you wish to leave youth books for the food shelf in the book drop please attach a note indicating that they are “Holiday Donations.” Otherwise we’ll pass them along to the Friends of the Library book sale. Only new books will be accepted for the food shelf. Thanks so much for your generosity.
The Library will be closing at 4 pm on Wednesday, Dec. 12 for a joint volunteer appreciation reception and going away party for Linda Huntington. Many thanks and much gratitude to all of our volunteers who help make the Pierson Library the special place that it is. Likewise, we wish Linda all the best in her new adventures in Massachusetts.
