Thanks to donations and a grant the Mater Christi School (MCS) in Burlington recently purchased a new playground for its youngest members. On a very cold Saturday, four volunteers including Dave Thompson of Shelburne; Bill Embick of Shelburne; Mark Behr, and principal, Paul Jette, worked for several hours, preparing the ground, covering it with fresh mulch, and assembling the playground pieces.
On Monday, after a little more time was spent putting on the final touches, the structure was ready for the children when recess rolled around. The three-year-olds and their teacher were the first to use the playground followed by the 4-year olds and kindergarteners.
Although Principal Jette is pleased with the generosity of the MCS community he noted that some more financial help would be welcome in order to completely cover the cost of the new playground.
