JoAnn W. Murray, 81, of South Burlington, died peacefully Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012, in Fletcher Allen Health Care with family and caring friends at her side, following continued complications. She was born in Petersburg, Va., on June 20, 1931, the daughter of the late Christian and Josephine (Hulsen) Williamson of Islip, N.Y. JoAnn was a graduate of Islip High School, Class of 1949, and of Green Mountain College, Class of 1951, where she received an associate’s degree in business. Upon graduating, she was employed at the National City Bank in New York for three years, but the enchantment of Vermont was embedded in her soul. She moved to Burlington, where she endeared herself to fellow bankers at the Burlington Savings Bank. On Nov. 5, 1955, she married William T. Murray of Montpelier at her family home in Islip, N.Y. She was a former member of the Klifa Club; Burlington Country Club and the Mary Fletcher Hospital Auxiliary. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels for 20 years. Among JoAnn’s survivors is her former spouse, William T. Murray of Shelburne. She was also predeceased by a brother, Christian Williamson III. There will be a private family gathering of remembrance and service with the distribution of her ashes.
