Social Band, Burlington’s lively band of choral singers, presents “Deep Midwinter: Songs from Winter’s Heart.” Directed by Amity Baker, this contemplative and celebratory program combines ancient and modern-day songs and carols to honor a season rich with contrasts of light and dark, outer cold, and inner warmth. Two performances will take place: Saturday, Dec. 22 at 7:30 pm at Christ Church, Presbyterian in Burlington and Sunday, Dec. 23 at 3 pm at the Charlotte Congregational Church.
Social Band was founded in 1998 to explore the diverse repertoires of traditional, early, and contemporary music. The presentation strikes a balance between raw exuberance and a polished sound. This mixed chorus of over 20 singers has become known for its signature mix of homegrown and international choral works spanning the ages, with a focus on new works by Vermont composers.
At both concerts, Social Band will facilitate the age-old holiday tradition of gift-giving by having all of their CDs available for sale – “Deep Midwinter: Songs from Winter’s Heart,” “Florona, Vermont Composers Project” and their brand new CD, “Those Stars.”
There is a $15 suggested donation and tickets are available at the door. Both venues are handicap accessible. For more information, visit www.socialband.org, www.facebook.com/socialband, or call (802) 658-8488.
