The number of fools in town exceeded the number estimated, according to Shelburne Rec. Dept. Director Betsy Cieplicki. “While we hoped we would get a hundred, no one was counting on reaching that goal. But we did it!” Cieplicki exclaimed on Monday, following the first ever Town’s Fools Flop. The estimated 36 degree water temperature dissuaded none of the 103 “floppers” who gathered at the Shelburne Beach to jump in the lake as part of the fundraising effort to purchase new playground equipment for the town.
The event raised over $10,000, thanks to a donation of $5,000 from Automaster, and a grant secured from the Shelburne Charlotte Hinesburg Interfaith Project (SCHIP), in addition to registration fees and “team” fundraising.
