After a tough 58-47 loss to Mount Mansfield last Thursday the boys basketball team rebounded with a 60-49 win against North Country on Tuesday, Jan. 8 at home. In the loss Joe Chevalier scored 15 and Brad Bissonette connected for 10. On Tuesday Lucas Aube led the way for the Redhawks by pouring in 22 points. Brad Bissonette scored 14.
CVU crowns three in New Hampshire
On Saturday, Jan. 5, the CVU Redhawk wrestlers ventured out of state for the first time in two years to square off with eight other teams from New Hampshire and Massachusetts. “It was time to test ourselves with kids from tough wrestling states and we proved to be ready,” said Coach Gunnar Olson. Five wrestlers brought home medals. Kienan Kittredge (182) collected a bronze, Alex Legg (126) silver, Liam Bowley (106), Connor Brown (160), and Grant Poston (170) all claimed titles with devastating pins and major decisions. For Bowley and Poston, this was their second tournament title and they remain undefeated since the season got under way in December. Alex Craige (120), and Connor Gobeille (152) both finished with impressive fourth place finishes.
BFA stings Redhawks
After a 12-0 loss to Northfield last Wednesday, the Champlain Valley girls got right back on the ice to play BFA St. Albans although they didn’t fare much better. The girls team was defeated 7-0 Friday, Jan. 4. Laurel Hubbert-Severence made 43 saves for the Redhawks.
CVU loses to Essex in Metro battle
After a 5-1 rout of Middlebury last Wednesday, Jan. 2 CVU battled Essex to a 2-1 loss on Saturday. Greg Talbert turned away 18 shots for CVU (4-2-1).
Winning streak continues
The CVU girls basketball team are still on a roll. In the last two games they beat South Burlington 41-35 and Mt. Mansfield 70-14. In both games Emily Kinneston led the way with 14 and 11 points respectively. Against MMU Amanda Beatty scored 10 points, Sadie Otley scored eight with six helpers and Laurel Jaunich contributed eight points for the perfect Redhawks. Kaelyn Kohlasch came up with five steals and six assists.
Nordic teams finish in first at U32
On Saturday the CVU Nordic team headed to U32 for a 6km skate race. Forrest Hamilton, Emmett Peterson, and Cooper Willsey placed second, third, and fourth respectively. CVU’s Marvin Muller placed seventh and Parker Frances finished in tenth place. On the girls side Taylor Spillane, Autumn Eastman, and Cally Braun finished second, third, and fourth to lead the girls to victory.
