Boys basketball victorious in close games

Lucas Aube scored 21 points and had 13 rebounds to lead CVU to a 58-55 double overtime victory over Essex on Friday, Jan. 18. Scott Bissonette, who scored a total of nine points, knocked down a shot at the buzzer to send the game into overtime. Aube lifted Champlain Valley to a 42-40 victory over Colchester in a high school boys basketball action Monday night after he scored the only points in overtime. Brad Bissonette and Joe Chevaliler scored 10 points each while Austin Busch’s two free throws forced overtime.

 

Boys hockey team on winning streak

The CVU boys hockey team jumped out to a 5-point first period lead to beat Rice 7-0 on Saturday, Jan. 19.  Ryan Keelan contributed two goals and an assist, Cam Rivard scored one goal and one assist while Elliot Mitchell scored twice and Jake Garrett and Kirk Fontana scored once each for the Redhawks. Alex Bulla had three assists and Will Bernicke had two.

 

Girls hoops team still unbeaten

Emily Kinneston recorded 15 points and seven steals to lead CVU past St. Johnsbury 60-24 on Saturday, Jan 19. Kaelyn Kohlasch knocked down nine points and Laurel Jaunich scored eight points and had six rebounds for the perfect Redhawks. CVU scored a victory over Burlington 49-47 thanks to Jaunich’s baseline jumper at the end of regulation Tuesday night in Burlington. Kohlasch tallied 17 points and Kinneston pitched in 10 for the 9-0 Redhawks.

 

Wrestlers continue winning ways

CVU’s Connor Brown was the runner up at the Essex Classic Wrestling Tournament on Saturday, Jan. 19. Senior Liam Bowley placed third, Grant Poston finished fourth, and Alex Craige placed fifth.

 

Girls hockey upended by MMU-SB

Mount Mansfield Union-South Burlington cruised by the Redhawks 9-1 last Saturday afternoon. Eva Dunphy scored and Tashia Pashby-Rockwood and Laurel Hubbert-Severance combined for 24 saves for CVU.
