Girls basketball extends unbeaten streak
Champlain Valley Union defeated Essex 45-37 in girls basketball action Tuesday, Jan. 29 to remain perfect. Emily Kinneston tallied 23 points, had nine rebounds, and seven steals for the perfect Redhawks. Kaelyn Kohlasch contributed 11 points. Last Friday the Redhawks defeated North Country 63-22. Sadie Otley led with four 3-pointers, 16 points, and three assists, Kinneston tallied six, had six helpers, and five steals while Kohlasch and Alex Krupp added seven points each.
Redhawks find the net
Although Eva Dunphy, Molly Dunphy, Sylvie Shanks, and Rachel Pitcher scored for Champlain Valley in girls ice hockey action against Burr and Burton, it wasn’t enough. Burr and Burton beat host CVU 9-4 on Sat. Jan. 26at Cairns Arena in South Burlington.
Nordic teams place first
Both Nordic teams placed first at the MMU Pursuit race on Friday, Jan. 25. On the girls side Taylor Spillane placed first in 15:39, Autumn Eastman finished second, while Cally Braun and Kayla Servin placed fifth and ninth respectively. For the boys Forrest Hamilton finished second, Emmett Peterson (4th), Sean Delaney (5th), Cooper Willsey (7th), Parker Francis (9th), and Thomas Clayton rounded out the Top 10. In the boys Junior Varsity race the top 10 finishers were all Redhawks. Winners, in order, were Casey Silk, Thomas Keller, Jonathan Buzzell, Zach Marshall, Colin Snyder, Louis St. Pierre, Ben Longenbach, Seamus Nolan, Nikolas Baya, and Ezra Pasackow. Eveylyn Needham, Leah Epstein, and Ming Fen Condon finished one, two and three while Summer Bishop, Ali Spasyk, and Olivia Slater placed sixth, eighth, and tenth.
Redhawk wrestlers take it to the matt
At the Colchester Invitation on Saturday, Jan. 26 the Redhawks wrestlers placed fourth overall. Connor Brown was crowned champion and Liam Bowley was runner up. Alex Craige and Kienan Kittredge placed third in their weight class while Connor Gobeille placed fourth.
Redhawks on 4-game winning streak
CVU’s Jeremy Lerner scored twice to lead Champlain Valley Union to a 3-0 victory in ice hockey over Middlebury on Saturday, Jan. 26. Kurt Fontana scored, Brendan Gannon had two helpers, and Greg Talbert made nine saves for the 8-2-1 Redhawks.
