Pierson Library Board of Trustees: The Pierson Library is looking for three civic-minded individuals to serve on the library’s Board of Trustees; two of these individuals will each serve a 3-year term and one will fill out a term of service that expires in 2015. These new trustees will be actively involved in charting the future direction of the library. The Board is comprised of seven Shelburne residents.
According to the trustees’ by-laws, the Board is the governing body of the library. The Board has the responsibility for establishing library policy and managing assets, both monetary and real property, which are or shall come into its hands.
The Board meets monthly to hear and discuss reports from the treasurer and committees. Additionally, the director of the library gives an account of the activities from the previous month, plans for upcoming programs, and needs that have arisen.
At present time, the Board is fortunate to have Kip Roberson as our able director. He is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the library–choosing and purchasing library materials, hiring and training staff, planning programs, etc. While the Board establishes library policy, it is the director who implements those policies through procedures and practices.
This is a very exciting time to be a member of the Board of Trustees. The library has just embarked on a new 3-year plan. This plan has set goals for the future development of library service in our community. The Board is also in the process of planning for the best way to expand the library facility. Primarily, this expansion will be designed to accommodate new and growing collections, new technologies, and will provide additional space for youth and young adult collections and programs.
If you are interested in becoming a member of the Pierson Library Board of Trustees, please send a letter of interest to Paul Bohne, Town Manager, PO Box 88, Shelburne, VT 05482.
Daytime Book Club: A few residents indicated that they would be interested in joining a daytime book club at the Pierson, and we’d like to know if you might be interested, too. The options include (1) 10:30 am on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday; or (2) a brown bag lunch, with beverages provided by the Pierson Library, at noon on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday. Please call Carol at 985-2154 to let her know which days and times work better for you.
Young People’s Movie: Gather round on Thursday, Jan. 31 in the youth area at 3:15 pm to view “Alvin & the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked.” Free popcorn will be served!
