Daniello Garma Balon, of Shelburne, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013, in Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington. Born in Quezon City, the Philippines, on June 27, 1970, he is survived by his wife and partner in all things, Arline P. Duffy, and their daughters, Emma Rose and Caitlin Balon, of Shelburne. He is also survived by his parents, Melito and Asuncion Balon of Daly City, Calif.; sisters, Jennifer Balon Barnes and husband, Brett, of Concord, Calif., Stephanie Balon Wong and husband, Richard, of South San Francisco, Calif., Barbara and John Duffy of Isle La Motte, and Sarah and Timothy Duffy of Burlington; as well as beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, uncles, and aunts in Vermont, California, and the Philippines. He also leaves many good friends all over the country. Dan grew up in San Francisco, Calif., graduated from St. Ignatius College Preparatory High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California Davis, a Master of Arts Counseling and Personnel Services, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Higher Education Administration from the University of Maryland College Park. He served in administrative positions at the University of Washington, the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, and several positions at the University of Maryland, College Park. With five colleagues, Dan was also a co-founder of CQ Strategies, LLC, that offers consulting and training around issues of diversity and cultural competency. Dan, a Californian at heart, remained staunchly loyal to the San Francisco Giants and the Forty-Niners, despite living all over the country. In Vermont though, he was never happier than sitting looking at the lake at his in-laws’ on Isle LaMotte. In lieu of flowers, a fund is being established for the benefit of Emma Rose and Caitlin Balon. Contributions may be sent to Sheehey Furlong & Behm P.C., 30 Main Street, P.O.
