In her new role as Major Gifts Officer, Shelburnite Suzanne Johnson will be responsible for engaging potential donors in an effort to broaden the organization’s financial base, allowing it to advance its humanitarian mission in Vermont and New Hampshire’s Upper Valley.
“The American Red Cross mission emphasizes the importance of ‘mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors’ in order to alleviate human suffering,” Johnson noted. “I will be working very hard to ensure that Red Cross volunteers and the people they help have the support they need from the broader community,” Johnson added.
Johnson brings experience not only in fundraising, but also marketing, sales, and management. In addition to having previously worked as a realtor for several years, she had the unique experience of owning and operating a restaurant, Tilley’s Café in Burlington, for several years.
For more than 13 years, Johnson has served as an “Ambassador” with the Lake Champlain Regional Chamber of Commerce, helping both new and current members become more connected with one another and the broader community. Additionally, she is a current board member with the Community Sailing Center on Lake Champlain.
“In Suzanne Johnson, the Red Cross has found someone with incredible passion, experience, and energy,” said Larry Crist, Regional Executive for the Vermont & the New Hampshire Upper Valley American Red Cross. “We know that the work of the Red Cross in our region will benefit enormously from the impact that Suzanne will make upon our organization,” Crist added.
