The Fairy Club returns. Our younger patrons, ages 4 to 8, are cordially invited to join the Fairy Club which will meet on four consecutive Wednesdays – Feb. 6, 13, 20, and 27 – at 3:30 pm. It’s free and a snack will be provided. Members of the Club will create their own art work and craft items to take home. Space is limited, so please call 985-5124 to register.
Best Books of 2012: Our February book exhibit features the Best Books of 2012. If you haven’t caught up on last year’s prime picks, come in soon to select one of the critics’ favorites. If you don’t know which book to choose, just browse through the pamphlet racks located next to the circulation desk. There are a number of brochures highlighting titles from The New York Times Best Seller lists for both fiction and nonfiction with brief synopses for each book. Other brochures suggest books in the categories of “Food for Thought and Flavor,” “Mysteries,” “Light Mysteries,” and “Cats, Dogs, Books Oh My!”
eBooks: if you now prefer reading electronically, be sure to peruse the article about the new Freading eBook Service available at the library on page 2. A clever combination of “Free” and “Reading,” this service is available only to Shelburne residents with a valid Pierson Library card. It’s so easy! Just go to www.piersonlibrary.freading.com, and click on Login in the upper right hand corner. Enter your library barcode and then follow the instructions. Choose from more than 20,000 titles. You may search by title or keyword, or browse in their “new arrivals” or “featured books” or “top downloads” sections. Give it a try!
Brown Bag Book Club: If enough patrons are interested, we will form a monthly brown bag Book Club, with the library providing free beverages. Let’s start with an organizing meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 26 at noon at Pierson. We can discuss what day of the week is most convenient for the greatest number, the types of books we would like to read, and how we’d like to organize ourselves. Come prepared with a list of two or more of your favorite recent reads. If you’d like to be part of the Brown Bag Book Club but can’t make it on Feb. 26, call Carol at 985-5124 or e-mail her at email@example.com and she will keep you informed.
Library closed on Monday, Feb. 18: The Library will be closed on Monday, Feb. 18 in honor of Presidents’ Day. Stock up on your books, magazines, DVDs, and audiobooks before we close for the long weekend on Saturday, Feb. 16at 3 pm.
