The Women’s Source for Sports will offer its 2nd Annual Women’s Winter Wellness Series, a series of free workshops given by area professionals, designed to promote your good health and well being this February. The presentations can help attendees find direction, answer questions, get started, stay motivated, and have fun!
Maurice Brown, owner of Your Personal Best Fitness Consulting, kicks off the series on Tuesday, Feb.12 at 6:30 pm with a workshop on how to make indoor workouts more efficient and effective. Whether interested in indoor training for an athletic event, or working on increasing fitness level for summer activities, Brown will share ideas, exercises, routines, and tips on how to get the most out of a home gym or fitness equipment. If you are thinking about home workouts, he can advise you on what you might want to start with, to work toward your goals. Brown is certified by the American Council on Exercise and the International Fitness Professionals Association, and has been helping people reach their personal best since 1998.
Yoga instructor, Jennifer Jarecki will teach participants about the ancient Indian techniques of breathing, movement, and meditation that have evolved into modern forms of yoga practices on Wednesday, Feb.20 at 6:30 pm. Jarecki will explore the history, principles, and aims of yoga practice, as well as some of the common misconceptions. She has been a student of yoga for many years and has received her 200 hour YT certification from Sofi Dillof and Emily Garrett of Laughing River Yoga. Through sharing her compassion, knowledge, love, and playful good humor, Jarecki aims to teach safe, engaging, inspiring yoga, that encourage students on and off the mat, to approach thoughts and actions from a place of understanding, community, and kindness. Participants are encouraged to wear something comfortable for sitting and light stretching and to bring a mat, blanket, or towel. Poses may be demonstrated, although the workshop is more of a discussion and meditation session.
Polly Menendez, a physical therapist and Certified Chi Instructor, will complete the series with an Introduction to Chi running on Tuesday, Feb. 26 at 6:30 pm. Since 1999, the Chi Running technique has helped thousands of runners at all levels, transform their technique, and open the door to pain-free, easier and more enjoyable running. Menendez will discuss how to improve efficiency and performance by engaging your core and relaxing limbs to create movement. She will also discuss how Chi running relates to the broader concept of minimal running.
All presentations are free and will be held at Women’s Source for Sports, 4050 Williston Road, from 6:30-7:30 pm. No prior registration is required. Choose one or the entire series and bring a friend. Upcoming workshops on nutrition, heart-rate training, and cycling are schedule for March. For more information call Nancy Condit at (802) 863-3233.
