Linda Ann Denning – Burlington / Stowe

Linda (Lin) Denning, 56, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday morning, Feb. 8, 2013, at her family home, of cervical cancer. Linda was born on Nov. 14, 1956, in Burlington, the daughter of the late John James (Jim) Denning and Lorraine (Valyeau) Denning. She attended St. Anthony’s Grammar School and graduated from Rice Memorial High School in 1974. Linda earned a BA degree in Fine and Performing Arts, Communications Arts and Science from Marymount Manhattan College in New York City in 1978. Following graduation, she remained there to pursue a career in modeling. She also developed an interest in fashion and entertaining. Linda returned to Burlington and worked for the Inn at Essex in Hospitality Sales. She then moved to Stowe to work for Stowe Mountain Resort as Manager of Hospitality Sales and Meeting Planning. She also worked in sales for New England Innkeepers, before starting her own consulting business for small inns and resorts. In addition to her formal employment, Linda engaged in extensive volunteer work, including fundraising for Fanny Allen Hospital and the Hope Lodge. Linda will be lovingly remembered for her warmth, generosity, humor, gracious manner and thoughtful regards for others. She especially inspired her family, friends and caregivers with her steadfast optimism, courage and grace in the face of terminal illness. Among others, Linda is survived by her brother, Robert (Bob) Denning of Shelburne, who was a constant, tireless, and devoted caregiver for Linda during her lengthy illness. In addition to her parents, Linda was predeceased on Sept. 29, 2012, by her beloved cat of 13 years, “Merlin.” Per Linda’s request, there will be no visiting hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Anthony’s Church, 305 Flynn Ave. on Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, at 11 am. Interment will be in the spring at the New Mount Calvary Cemetery. A celebration of Linda’s life will follow the Mass, to be announced at the Church. Arrangements are in the care of Ready Funeral and Cremation Services, 261 Shelburne Road, Burlington.
