Leo S. Knox Jr. – Essex Junction

Leo S. Knox Jr., 77, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013, at his home. He was born on Aug. 25, 1935, in Burlington, the son of Leo Sr. and Ruth (Clark) Knox. He attended school at Cathedral Grammar and Cathedral High School, graduating in 1953. He served in the U.S. Marines from 1953 to 1955. He worked for IBM in Essex Junction for 27 years. Leo was hired in 1957, and was one of the first native Vermonters hired in the Essex Junction plant. Leo was active in the Marine Corps League, serving as Commandant for 10 years. He was very involved with Toys for Kids of Vermont. An active member of VFW Post 6689 Essex Junction, he served as chaplain. He was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post 1 of St. Albans, the RVA of Winooski, and the Elks Club of Burlington. Leo was involved with the Vermont National Guard as an Honor Guard member, and was the flag presenter at USMC burials. Leo was an active member of Holy Family Church in Essex Junction, serving as Eucharistic Minister. Leo was Grand Marshal at the Essex Junction Memorial Day Parade in 2010. Leo was a longtime member of the Essex Junction community, and will be greatly missed by his many friends and acquaintances.
