SCS awarded arts grant

The Shelburne Community School (SCS) was recently awarded a grant from the Vermont Arts Council (VAC) to support an Artist in Residence. This grant, along with additional funds from the SCS PTO, will enable eight classroom teachers to work in close collaboration with two teaching artists from the Flynn Center’s Words Come Alive! program. Together they will develop an integrated unit combining classroom content with theater. Students will deepen their understanding of the elements of theater while progressing through their grade-level curricula.
This differentiated form of instruction will be shared among teachers to prolong the impact of this residency in our learning community. It is hoped that Shelburne will continue this collaboration over the next few years so that many teachers will be trained in a meaningful arts integration.
The SCS community truly appreciates this grant reward from the Vermont Arts Council. Many thanks also to Sally Stevens for spear-heading the grant-writing, with help from Co-Principal Pati Beaumont and the Flynn Theatre’s Stacy Raphael.
