Catamount Outdoor Family Center in Williston is offering more camp programs for summer 2013! In addition to their popular mountain bike and running camps, Catamount has teamed up with experienced art educators to offer a variety of art camps for ages 6-15. These camps are designed with fun in mind while also structuring a supportive learning environment for the budding artist. Camps are broken down into different age levels to best match campers with age-appropriate activities and content.
“We really wanted to branch out to meet more of our non-profit mission” said Eric Bowker, Executive Director of Catamount Outdoor Family Center. “When Abbie floated this idea by me, I thought – perfect – let’s do it!” Abbie Bowker, Eric’s wife, founded the mountain bike camps at Catamount in 1994 but has since taken leave of camp business to be with children Newt and Clover. “I’m so excited to bring this passion to Catamount. I’ve been teaching art at Champlain Valley Union High School in Hinesburg for eight years and wanted to do something that brought my love of Catamount together with my love of art.” Abbie asked three art teaching colleagues, Tim Duvernoy, Emily McLane, and Emily Mitchell if they wanted to join in on the fun. Abbie explains, “We have four weeks of art camp this summer to compliment the mountain biking and running camps, and each of the four teachers at CVU will be teaching one of the weeks. I’m sending my son Newt to the first week of camp. I’m so excited that he’ll have one of my colleagues as a teacher!”
The four weeks include Early Art Explorers (ages 6-8), Beyond Starry Night (ages 8-11), Nature Inspired (ages 8-13) and Drawing from Life (ages 12-15)
