Shelburne resident Ted Albers was elected president of the 1,100 member Burlington section of the Green Mountain Club (GMC) during its February 2013 Annual Meeting. Burlington section GMC members are an eclectic group who share the goal of protecting and maintaining Vermont’s Long Trail. The GMC was founded in 1910, and the Long Trail is the oldest long-distance trail in the U.S. Responsibilities for the Burlington section include the protection and maintenance of the trails connecting many of the best known Green Mountain peaks including Mt. Mansfield. While many section members love to hike, many more are interested in simply supporting the GMC’s stewardship of the Green Mountains. They contribute by becoming members, volunteering, or attending special engagements.
